
Is this picture looks familiar to you? If it does, it’s not a strange things to wonder. This pictures was taken during the monumental battle of Iwo Jima. The battle was a hardship for the US Marines Corps.
The battle
cost the lives of twenty thousands American souls and the campaign was delayed for a month.
Even though the battle was hard, but out of the chance, this picture was taken with great luck. At first, it was just a plain picture with no faces of the soldiers clearly displayed, but the art of the posture quickly became the inspiration of American citizens. Eventually millions of copy of this picture were printed for press. After the war, it became the symbol courage and patriotism.
In order to memories the souls sacrificed in American wars (especially in WWII), a monument based on the picture were built in Arlington, Virginia. Some of the copies even being modified to suit the forest reservation campaign in modern days.
